Client Onboarding Guide

A quick guide to getting started with Prosaic

Prosaic is a secure online platform your accountant or bookkeeper uses to manage your books more efficiently. It connects directly to your bank feeds using open-banking technology, so your accountant can quickly code transactions and prepare reports such as GST or year-end financials.

This guide will help you set up your access and connect your bank accounts. The whole process usually takes about 5 minutes.

Step By Step Guide

1️⃣ Accept your invite

You’ll receive an email invitation from your accountant.

Click “Get started” and sign in using your email address. Prosaic uses magic-link login — no passwords required.

If you don’t see the email, check your spam or promotions folder.

2️⃣ Confirm your details

You’ll be asked to confirm or add some basic details:

  • Name and contact number
  • IRD number (optional)
  • Address (optional)
  • Type of business (e.g. sole trader, rental property, trust)

You can skip anything your accountant already has on file.

3️⃣ Connect your bank feeds

Prosaic connects to your bank securely through Akahu, New Zealand’s trusted open-banking partner.

To connect:

  1. Click Add bank accounts
  2. Choose your bank and log in securely through Akahu
  3. Select which accounts you’d like to share (e.g. business, rental, credit card)
  4. Approve access — you’ll see a confirmation when it’s complete

You can add or remove accounts at any time.

🔒 Your security: Prosaic never sees or stores your bank passwords. Connections are handled entirely through Akahu and can be revoked at any time from your bank or at my.akahu.nz.

4️⃣ Check and finish setup

Back in Prosaic, check that your accounts have been correctly labelled (e.g. Business, Personal, Rental).

Once confirmed, click Finish onboarding — your accountant will now receive your bank data and can begin preparing your financials.

✅ What happens next

  • Your accountant will start reconciling transactions and preparing reports.
  • You might receive reports for review or approval (e.g. your GST return).
  • You can log in at any time to view your accounts and reports.
  • If you ever change banks, simply reconnect through Akahu — it only takes a moment.
