Report Packs
A report pack brings a client's year-end reporting together into one document: a compilation report, financial statements, notes, and any commentary you want to add, all built from live Prosaic data. You assemble the pack from a template, edit the text pages in place, publish it to lock the figures, then export or share it with the client.

Creating a report pack
Go to Reports → Report Packs and select Create Report Pack. You'll be asked for four things:
- Entity the pack is for.
- Template to start from, or none if you'd rather build the pack yourself.
- Date Range the reports should cover.
- Name, which Prosaic suggests from the template and period (for example "Company Annual (SPFR) – FY2026"). You can overwrite it.
Choosing a template pre-fills the pack with its pages. Everything after that is editable, so the template is a starting point rather than a commitment.

Templates
Prosaic ships eight templates, one per entity type in each of two reporting frameworks:
- SPFR: Sole Trader Annual, Company Annual, Partnership Annual, Trust Annual.
- ATAINZ: the same four entity types, ATAINZ-branded, with the ATAINZ logo and compilation disclaimer on every page.
The pages differ by entity type. A company pack includes the approval of financial report, director's resolution and interests register disclosures; a trust pack includes the statement of changes in trust funds, beneficiary current accounts and the resolution of trustees. Most templates include a compilation report, directory, statement of accounting policies, profit and loss, balance sheet, current accounts, depreciation schedule, and notes to the financial statements.
Templates are built into Prosaic, so you can't create your own from scratch yet. If you've built a pack the way your practice likes it, duplicate that pack rather than starting again. See Duplicating a pack below.
Adding, reordering and removing pages
Open a pack and use the contents dropdown at the top of the page to manage what's in it. From there you can:
- Add more pages. The available types are Profit & Loss, Operating Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Current Accounts, Depreciation Schedule, and a custom text page.
- Reorder pages by dragging them into position.
- Remove a page you don't need.
Report pages pull live figures from the entity for the pack's date range, so you don't enter any numbers yourself. Custom pages are free text, for anything the standard pages don't cover.
The pack also has a cover page and a contents page, both included by default. You can leave them out when you export or share.
These controls only appear while the pack is in draft. A published pack is read-only until you revert it.

Editing text pages
Text pages, including the compilation report, directory, accounting policies and notes, are edited directly in the pack. Click into the page and type. You get standard formatting, lists, and tables.
Tables in text pages are ordinary editable tables, so a related parties table or an interests register works the same way as any other table: click into the row you want to remove and use the table controls to delete it. Depreciation schedules are different, because they're live data rather than text, and they update from the entity's fixed asset register instead of being edited by hand.
Your changes save as you work. The status indicator near the pack name shows when a save is in progress.

Placeholders
Placeholders are variables you drop into a text page so the pack fills in the detail at export time. Instead of typing an entity's name into the compilation report, you insert the Entity Name placeholder and Prosaic resolves it. That's what makes a duplicated pack usable for a different client or a different year without a manual find-and-replace.
Insert one with the Variable button on the editor toolbar. The dropdown previews the value each placeholder will resolve to for this pack, grouped into:
- Entity: Entity Name, Entity Type, GST Number, IRD Number.
- Workspace: Practice Name.
- Dates: Period End Date, Period Start Date, Current Financial Year, Prior Financial Year, Next Year End Date, Year After Next End Date, Current Date.
- Tables: live tables such as the depreciation schedule.
Placeholders show as purple chips while you're editing, so you can tell at a glance what's fixed text and what will be filled in.
The templates already use placeholders throughout, which is why a template pack reads correctly for the entity and period you created it for.

Publishing and reverting
A pack starts in draft. While it's a draft, the reports in it recalculate from live data, so a late journal changes the figures.
Selecting Publish takes a snapshot of every report in the pack and freezes it. The published pack keeps showing the figures as they stood at that moment, no matter what happens in the ledger afterwards. That's what makes it safe to send to a client and to rely on later.
If you need to change a published pack, use Revert to draft. The pack becomes editable again and the reports go back to live figures. Publish again when you're finished to take a fresh snapshot.
Exporting and sharing
Export gives you the pack as a PDF or an Excel workbook. The PDF is formatted as a finished set of financial statements. You can choose whether to include the cover page and contents page.
Share sends the pack to the client. Add up to the listed maximum of recipients, include a custom message, and Prosaic delivers it. Sharing by email from within the pack is still being rolled out, and anything not yet available is marked Coming soon in the share menu.
Publish before you share. Sharing a draft sends figures that can still move.

Duplicating a pack
Duplicating is how you reuse a pack you've already set up, and it's the closest thing to building your own template.
On the Report Packs list, open the actions menu on any pack and choose Duplicate. You then pick:
- the Entity the copy is for, which can be a different client;
- the Date Range, which can be a different year;
- a Name for the copy.
The copy keeps your page structure and your edited text, and because placeholders resolve against the new entity and period, the wording follows. Set one pack up the way your practice wants it, then duplicate it for every client that needs the same treatment.

History
Each pack has a History section at the bottom of the page, listing what changed, when, and which user made the change. It's there for review, and for answering the question of who published a pack and when.
Current limits
A few things worth knowing before you plan a workflow around report packs:
- You can't create or save your own template. Duplicate an existing pack instead.
- Report pages cover profit and loss, operating profit and loss, balance sheet, current accounts and depreciation schedule. Anything else goes on a custom text page.
- Editing is only available in draft. Revert a published pack to change it.
- Some share options are still marked Coming soon.
We're continuing to build this out, and practice-level templates are the most requested addition. If there's a page or a format your year-end process needs, tell us.
